Kuttabul

With a population of around seven hundred, Kuttabul lies on Yuwibara country, thirty-three kilometres northwest of Mackay within the Mackay Regional Council's boundaries. The locality is a cluster of neighbourhoods in the sugar-growing lowlands between the 510-metre Mount Martin and the Mount Martin National Park to the west of the locality, the 570-metre Pinnacle (570 metres) within the Pioneer Peaks National Park to the east and 547-metre Mount Jukes to the northeast rather than a single identifiable township.

The area was initially known as Hampden and, subsequently, Mount Jukes and Parapi after farm selectors moved into the district in the 1880s. Transporting freshly cut sugar to a mill for processing remained an issue until a tram line to the Marian mill opened in 1896. Schools opened at Hampden (1887, still operating) and Narpi (1926, closed at the end of 2006).

The Bruce Highway and North Coast railway pass through the locality, which is also home to the Camelboks Rugby Union club. Kuttabul, derived from a Yuwibara word meaning 'wonderful,' was assigned to the Kuttabul railway station in March 1927.
