Aeterni regis

After the War of the Castilian Succession (1475 — 1479), the papal bull Aeterni regis ("Of the eternal king", 21 June 1481), confirmed Nicholas V's Romanus Pontifex (1455) and approved the Treaty of Alcáçovas.

In the decree, Pope Sixtus IV confirmed Castile's possession of the Canary Islands and Portugal's right to all Christian territorial acquisitions to their south en route to the Indies.
