Kennedy Highway
The 243-kilometre Kennedy Highway runs from Smithfield, on Cairns' northern outskirts, to the Gulf Developmental Road at Minnamoolka, about 40 kilometres south of Mount Garnet, adjacent to the Forty Mile Scrub and Undara lava tubes.
From there, the road branches. The 936-kilometre Kennedy Developmental Road continues to Boulia via the Lynd, Hughenden and Winton, while the Gulf Developmental Road runs west to Normanton.
Major towns on or adjacent to the highway include Smithfield, Kuranda, Mareeba, Atherton, Ravenshoe and Mount Garnet.
