Palmerston Highway
The 54.6-kilometre Palmerston Highway connects the southern Atherton Tablelands to Innisfail on the coast.
It is named after North Queensland bushman and prospector Christie Palmerston, who cut a track from Mourilyan Harbour to Herberton in 1882.
The highway passes through the Wooroonooran National Park to Millaa Millaa, where it splits. Today's main branch continues north to Malanda, while the Old Palmerston Highway continues south and west to meet the Kennedy Highway north of Ravenshoe.
