Ross River Road
One of Townsviile's major arterial roads, Ross River Road was formerly the main road to Charters Towers, crossing the Ross River towards its headwaters. Construction of bridges across the river's lower reaches saw Charters Towers Road split at Rising Sun, with Bowen Road carrying south and westbound traffic, while the newly named Ross River Road carried traffic to Mundingburra, Aitkenvale and beyond.
The road's current incarnation runs from the lights at Rising Sun past Mundingburra State School, the Cathedral School, shopping centres in Aitkenvale, Ignatius Park College and The Weir State School to an intersection with Thuringowa Drive and Riverway Drive (formerly Upper Ross River Road, the next section of the old Charters Towers Road. Traffic moving across the intersection moves onto Hervey's Range Road.
The straight section of the road that runs past The Weir State School was used as an airstrip during World War II.
