Biboohra

Situated forty kilometres west of Cairns and around ten kilometres north of Mareeba on the Mulligan Highway in Muluridji country, Biboohra reputedly takes its name from an Aboriginal name for the Barron Falls.

The Barron River runs through the locality, passing east of the town.

European settlement in the area followed the arrival of the railway line from Cairns in 1884. A boiling-down works operated there around the turn of the twentieth century, and the town became a railway junction after the Mount Molloy company put down a line to connect to the existing line between Cairns and Mareeba in 1907.
