Pioneer Valley

Extending for around forty-five kilometres through Biri and Yuwi country from Netherdale at the foot of the Eungella range to the township of Mariam, the Pioneer Valley is one of Australia's richest cane-growing areas. However, despite the labelling, much of the valley, including the townships of Finch Hatton and Pinnacle, is drained by Cattle Creek, which joins the Pioneer, which rises in the Pinnacle Ranges about sixty-three kilometres southwest of Mackay, near Benholme, just west of Mirani. The valley contains important sugar mills and linked railway lines as far west as Pinnacle.
