Charters Towers Region
Located on Gugu Badhun country southwest of Townsville, the Charters Towers Region was established in 2008, with the amalgamation of the City of Charters Towers and the Dalrymple Shire, both of which dated back to the 1870s.
The City of Charters Towers was initially the Charters Towers Municipality, proclaimed in June 1877 under the Municipal Institutions Act 1864. It became the Town of Charters Towers at the end of March 1903 and the City of Charters Towers in April 1909.
The Dalrymple Shire began as Dalrymple Division, one of seventy-four divisions created under the Divisional Boards Act 1879 in November 1879 and became the Shire at the end of March 1903.
