Kuku Yalanji
According to Norman Tindale, the Kuku Yalanji (a.k.a. Gugu-Yalanji, Kuku Yalandji or Kokojelandji, inhabited around 5,700 square kilometres around the Palmer River's headwaters from Palmerville station to Mount Lukin, and over the southern and western sections of the Dividing Range towards the Mitchell River's upper stretches.
Since that area encompasses much of the former Palmer River goldfield, the Kuku Yalanji played a significant role in the indigenous resistance during the field's early years.
They were eventually reduced to fringe-dwellers living in shanty towns on the outskirts of the new economy before forced relocations moved the bulk of their people to Mossman and Wujal Wujal.
