Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus, a genus within the myrtle family, comprises over 700 species of evergreen trees and shrubs commonly known as “gum trees”. Most are native to Australia, and approximately three-quarters of the country’s forests are eucalypt. Many species have adapted to wildfires, either resprouting or producing seeds that survive the heat. Eucalyptus trees are important as forest trees in Australia and are grown elsewhere for their hardwood, oils, gums, and resins, as well as for ornamental purposes.
