Richard Daintree
Geologist and photographer Richard Daintree (1832-1878) was North Queensland's first Government geologist and used photography in his fieldwork.
His photographs formed the basis of Queensland's contribution to the Exhibition of Arts and Industry in 1871, and he was appointed Queensland's Agent-General in London the following year.
Malpractice by some of his staff and Daintree's ill health forced him to resign in 1876. North Queensland locations named after him include the town of Daintree, the nearby reef, river, rainforest and National Park.
