Albatross Bay
Albatross Bay, a coastal feature south of Duyfken Point, is considered the site of the first recorded European contact with the Australian continent. Dutch explorer Willem Jansz, on his ship the Duyfken, sighted the coast there in 1606. Jan Carstensz passed on 13 April 1623. The mining town of Weipa is located on the eastern shore.
