Ellis Beach
Located around 25 kilometres north-northwest of the city's CBD on the Captain Cook Highway in Djabugay Country, Ellis Beach is the northernmost of Cairns' northern beaches — a five-kilometre strip along the coast with two offshore islands (Double Island and Haycock Island).
Ellis Beach Surf Lifesaving Club hosts regular competitions and events and patrols, a stinger net intended to protect swimmers from marine "stingers" (jellyfish species of Chironex and Irukandji 'box' jellyfish, which inhabit the waters each summer.
