Deeral

Located on the Bruce Highway and the North Coast railway line in Yidinji Country, 14 kilometres north of Babinda, 20 kilometres southeast of Gordonvale and 36 kilometres south-southeast of Cairns, the locality of Deeral extends eastwards to the Coral Sea with the Mulgrave/Russell river estuary on its southern flank.

The locality was initially known as Munros Creek — probably after grazier, butcher and sugar industry pioneer William John Munro, the chairman of Cairns Division, which funded and built the Cairns-Mulgrave tramway. Munros Creek was one of its stations. The name was changed to a Yidinyji word indicating teeth around 1912.
