Archer River
Located on the Peninsula Development Road in Kaantju country, 63 kilometres north-northwest of Coen, 328 kilometres south-southeast of Thursday Island, 492 kilometres north-northwest of Cairns and 144 kilometres southeast of Weipa, Archer River takes its name from the stream which flows through the locality towards the Gulf of Carpentaria.
The locality includes the former Wenlock Goldfield.
The Archer River Roadhouse on the Peninsula Developmental Road immediately south of the township provides accommodation, meals, fuel and other services to travellers travelling to and from Weipa, 'The Tip" and other more remote locations.
