Hermit Park
Situated in Wulgurukaba country, two kilometres south-west of central Townsville, between Charters Towers Road to the west, Ross River and Ross Creek to the east, and Rosslea to the south, Hermit Park was the site of the plantation operated by Robert Towns and John Melton Black.
Despite suggestions that the suburb acquired its name due to its remoteness from central Townsville and Ross Island (South Townsville) when the area was subdivided in the 1880s, it was derived from the residence of prominent businessman Leopold Ferdinand Sachs.
