Barron Falls

Located 1.75 kilometres southeast of Kuranda and just over 16 kilometres northwest of Cairns in Djabugay Country within the Barron Gorge National Park, the Barron Falls (Djabugay: Din Din) is a steep, tiered cascade waterfall created by the Barron River's descent from the Atherton Tablelands to the coastal plain.

The falls became one of North Queensland's most popular tourist attractions after the railway from Cairns to the Atherton Tablelands was completed in the 1890s, with visitors drawn to the rainforest, scenic attractions and the pleasant temperatures that come with altitude.

After the weir behind the head of the falls that supplies water to the Barron Gorge Hydroelectric Station — located below the falls — the flow of water only reaches its former volume during a good wet season.
