Hodgkinson River
As the Mitchell River's easternmost tributary — the Dry, Walsh, and Lynd join the Mitchell further down, with the McLeod, St George, Little Mitchell, Palmer and Alice Rivers flowing in from the right — the Hodgkinson River drains a 16,072.21 square kilometre catchment. The river rises roughly 75 kilometres west-northwest of Cairns, within the Hodgkinson Mineral Province, which produced large quantities of alluvial gold after James Venture Mulligan found payable gold there in 1876.
