Benaraby

Located on the Bruce Highway 19 kilometres south-southeast of Gladstone and 8 kilometres southwest of Tannum Sands, the rural township of Benaraby has become a dormitory suburb for workers employed in Gladstone, Boyne Island and Tannum Sands. The locality of the same name extends inland to Lake Awoonga — the impoundment of the Boyne River that provides regional storage for domestic and industrial water usage.

Although the name may derive from an indigenous expression for the Boyne River, there is nothing known to confirm the suggestion. The Queensland Place Names Database has "No details available" in the Comments, Origin and History fields.

The area was known as Annandale, the name of the local railway station, until 1908. The name seems to have changed when the Benaraby school opened in 1909
