Mingela
Located in Gugu-Badhun Country 44 kilometres northeast of Charters Towers, 70 kilometres south-southwest of Townsville and 165 kilometres west-northwest of Bowen on the Flinders Highway and the Great Northern Railway, the rural settlement of Mingela was initially called Cunningham. It became Ravenswood Junction when the branch line to Ravenswood opened in December 1884, and then Mingela — reputedly a word from an unspecified First Nations language or dialect meaning a string of waterholes — in March 1931 after the line closed.
The locality of Mingela was created in July 2016 by merging the former locality of Crimea with parts of Ravenswood, Reid River and Dotswood.
