St Helens Beach
Located just under fifty kilometres northwest of Mackay and fifty-four kilometres south-southeast of Proserpine, around the border between Yuwi and Giya country, St Helens Beach takes its name from St Helens Creek, which rises in the Clarke Range, flows past the township of Calen and discharges into the Coral Sea south of Repulse Bay. The St Helens pastoral run was taken up by R. W. Graham, John and William Macartney in the 1870s.
The beach settlement was initially known as Wootaroo but was changed to St Helens in April 1973 and then to St Helens Beach in September 1989.
