Guthalungra

Situated around forty-three kilometres west-northwest of Bowen and sixty kilometres southeast of Ayr on the Bruce Highway in Yuru country, the rural settlement of Guthalungra was named after a significant local Indigenous figure in 1889, when the first stage of the railway line from Bowen reached the Elliot River, which flows through the locality into Abbot Bay west of Mount Curlewis.

The town's Provisional School opened in 1948, became Guthalungra State School in February 1957 and closed in 1988.

North of the township towards the mouth of the Elliot, Pacific Reef Fisheries' Guthalungra Prawn Farm serves as a hatchery for black tiger prawns which are then raised for harvest and processing at the company's facility at Ayr.
