Elliot River

Flowing into Abbot Bay, between Abbot Point and Cape Upstart, approximately forty kilometres west-northwest of Bowen and sixty kilometres southeast of Ayr, the Elliot River and its tributaries rise in the foothills of Mount Abbot and Mount Aberdeen.

George Elphinstone Dalrymple named the river, which passes through Guthalungra and reaches the sea near Mount Curlewis in an area where many local residents have acquired beach huts and recreational campsites, after Gilbert Elliot, the first Speaker of the Queensland Legislative Assembly.
