Torrens Creek

The creek that gives the rural locality of Torrens Creek its name rises in the Great Dividing Range and flows southward to join the Thomson River system and eventually drain into Lake Eyre.

Waterholes along and around Torrens Creek, including the Fisheries waterhole (Aberfoyle waterhole) were an important food source for the Yirandali people, who used wicker-nets and fish traps made of hedges to catch giant golden perch. Fierce competition for access to the Fisheries in the early years of settlement saw Tower Hill station managers Llewellyn Meredith and Robert McNeely killed there in 1865.
