Embley River

Draining a 4,622 square kilometres catchment area, the Embley River flows north-west for 54 kilometres from headwaters on the coastal plain on Cape York Peninsula's western side, discharging into Albatross Bay at Evans Landing just south of Weipa.

John Douglas, the Queensland Government Resident on Thursday Island, named the Embley after the surveyor, John Thomas Embley, in 1895.

The river has five tributaries— the Hey River, Marmoss Creek, Kurracoo Creek, Spring Creek and Brownstone Creek.
