Koombooloomba Dam
Located on the Tully River, 27 kilometres southeast of Ravenshoe and 36 kilometres west-northwest of Tully, the Koombooloomba Dam was built to create a reservoir for the Kareeya hydroelectric power station.
The Queensland Government Co-ordinator-General's Department constructed the 790-thousand-cubic-metre dam in 1960. The dam wall — 399 metres long and 40 metres high — encloses a 1,550-hectare reservoir, with an average depth of 12.9 metres containing up to 186,750 megalitres of runoff from a 163 square kilometre catchment in the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Wet Tropics.
The Koombooloomba Hydro Power Station was commissioned in 1999 with a 7.3 megawatt turbo generator that generates up to 22.5 gigawatt-hours.
