Newcastle Range

Lying in Agwamin/Ewamin country around 320 kilometres west-northwest of Townsville, 270 kilometres southwest of Cairns and 240 kilometres west of Ingham, the Newcastle Range covers an area of 2500 square kilometres, running roughly north-northeast for 150 kilometres between Einasleigh in the east and Forsayth and Georgetown to the west. The range's present structure — a well-exposed caldera system that erupted on the trailing edge of Eastern Gondwana between 325 and 295 Million Years Ago — has provided geomagnetic evidence that documents Eastern Gondwana's tectonic movements during the Late Palaeozoic.
