Kuranda National Park
Located in Djabugay/Djabuganji Country within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, approximately 8 kilometres north-northwest of Kuranda, and 25 kilometres northwest of Cairns, the 27,100-hectare Kuranda National Park is one of a network of National Parks and State Forests along the tropical forest-clad coastal ranges north west of Cairns.
As such, it is often twinned with its northern neighbour, Mowbray National Park. Other conservation-oriented locations in the area include Macalister Range National Park, Smithfield Conservation Park, Barron Gorge National Park, and Kuranda West Forest Reserve.
The park occupies parts of the Mona Mona, Mount Molloy, Macalister Range, and Kuranda localities within the Cairns Region and the Mareeba Shire local government areas. It covers some of the most easterly parts of the Mitchell River catchment, the northern parts of the Barron River catchment and coastal creeks to the north of Cairns.
The 43-kilometre, mostly unsealed Black Mountain Road, which leaves the Kennedy Highway near Kuranda and links to the Mossman–Mount Molloy Road, near Julatten, provides access to both Kuranda and Mowbray National Parks, the 18-kilometre Twin Bridges walking track and the historic Bump Track.
