Richmond
Located on the Flinders Highway in Wunumara and Yirandali country, about 380 kilometres east of Mount Isa, 110 kilometres west of Hughenden, 420 kilometres west-southwest of Townsville and 630 kilometres west of Mackay, Richmond is the administrative centre of the Richmond Shire. The town, which lies on the Flinders River's western bank, takes its name from the Richmond Downs Pastoral Run, taken up by Arthur Bundock and Walter Hays in 1863 and named after Bundock's birthplace.
William Landsborough camped at the site that later became the town on 13 March 1862 on his search for the Burke and Wills expedition. Frederick Walker was on the same quest when he passed through the area in October 1861.
