Meunga Creek
Discharging into Rockingham Bay just under 4 kilometres north of Cardwell, in Wargamaygan Country, Meunga Creek was initially named the Marlow (Marlowe) River by George Elphinstone Dalrymple — after Lieutenant John Marlow of the Native Mounted Police — when he established the settlement at Cardwell in 1864.
Despite Dalrymple's attempt to honour Marlow, the creek has reputedly been known by its original name — Meunga Creek — since Cardwell's earliest days.
