Wangaratta Creek

Crossing the Bruce Highway 27 kilometres southeast of Ayr, 18 kilometres from Home Hill and 78 kilometres west-northwest of Bowen, Wangaratta Creek defines the coastal boundary between the Burdekin Shire and Whitsunday Region and the western boundary of the locality of Gumlu.

The creek and the settlement, subsequently renamed Bobawaba, provided the name for the Wangaratta Division, established in 1879, which later became Wangaratta Shire and, in 1960, merged with the Bowen Town Council to create the Bowen Shire.
