Kareeya hydroelectric power station

Located near
Cardstone in DyirbalÅ‹an Country, just under 20 kilometres south-southeast of Ravenshoe and 42 kilometres west-northwest of Tully, the Kareeya Hydro Power Station — commissioned in 1957 — takes its name from the Djirbal word for big water.
The Kareeya Hydro project originally comprised the combination of
Koombooloomba Dam, the Tully Falls Weir and Kareeya Hydro power station, with the dam as a reservoir and the weir directing water through a tunnel to underground turbines below Tully Falls.
The power station was upgraded between 2005 and 2008, extending its life by 25 years and increasing capacity, generation, efficiency, and availability.
